Our company originated with designer and woodworker Benjamin Bader’s decision
in December 2009 to design and produce a high quality, American-made acoustic stompbox for drummers, singer/songwriters, and electronic musicians. Armed with nothing but a couple of photos, a simple description and word of mouth, he successfully manufactured and sold roughly 400 "N.U.T. Boxes" within the first year of business to satisfied customers around the world. Though this early design solved some of the problems inherent in designs from other companies, he wasn't fully satisfied with the final product, and in early 2011, the decision was made to cease production on the N.U.T. Box so that he could re-focus on his design company and make a number of improvements to the stompbox design before releasing it back on the market.
Over the next few years, when not occupied by design work, he began designing and building a few experimental electric guitars and researched materials and electronic components to ensure that the next generation of stompboxes produced would far exceed the instruments both he and his competitors previously made.
By the end of 2012, armed with a rough prototype of the new stompbox, the decision was made to start building everything back up to go into production once more. Rather than continue to use the long-winded New Understanding Technologies, inspiration was taken from the mascot of his design company and in April 2013, Griffintone was born and www.griffintone.com was officially launched.
